“We are encountering the biggest challenge of our lives due to President Trump’s unwarranted trade measures and his threats to our autonomy,” Carney stated.
“There is still considerable work needed to safeguard Canada, to put resources into Canada, to construct Canada, and to bring together all Canadians. For this reason, I am seeking a solid affirmative endorsement from my fellow citizens,” Carney stated to journalists following his discussion with the Governor General—the official representative of the Crown. He then announced that he had asked the Governor General to dissolve Parliament and schedule an election for April 28th, which she approved.
