Asian Agri & PLN Seal Green Energy Partnership

Renewable energy will come from a biogas generating facility.

Through its business division PT Indo Sepadan Jaya (PT ISJ), Asian Agri has entered into an operational commencement agreement with PT PLN (Persero) North Sumatra Distribution Unit (PT PLN North Sumatra) regarding the provision of sustainable power.

As per Asian Agri, the electricity will be sourced from a biogas power station and distributed through PLN’s grid system in North Sumatra.

“This platform enables us not just to transform waste into power, but also to enhance energy stability and contribute to regional carbon reduction initiatives,” stated Sumith Fernando, Managing Director of Asian Agri.

PT ISJ’s facility generates more methane gas than can be used immediately. Following technical and feasibility assessments, Asian Agri decided to use the extra gas in a gas-powered generator to generate an additional one megawatt of electrical energy. This electricity will be provided to PT PLN Sumatra Utara through a three-year power supply contract.

Electricity produced cleanly at this plant will be delivered to PT PLN’s network in the Rantau Prapat region.
