Chief Dr George Muoghalu, who previously served as the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has been chosen as the gubernatorial candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in the upcoming election scheduled for 8 November in Anambra State.
In the party’s primary election held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Finotel Hotel in Awka, Muoghalu secured 573 votes, defeating his sole competitor, Mr. John Nwosu, who garnered 19 votes.
The outcome of the competition was revealed by Hon Barr Benedict Etanabene, who serves as the Chairman of the LP Governorship Primary Election for Anambra.
The analysis of the outcome disclosed by the Chairman indicated that Chief George Muoghalu secured 573 votes to claim the party’s nomination, whereas Mr. John Nwosu obtained only 19 votes.
He stated that the overall vote count was 597, with 592 valid votes and 5 invalid ones.

Etanabene, despite characterizing the initiative as peaceful, encouraged the representatives to begin serious door-to-door outreach efforts throughout all 21 local government areas within the state.
He praised the security agencies, INEC, and the press for their contributions in making sure the event ran smoothly.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Muoghalu expressed gratitude to the delegates for placing their trust in him as the party’s nominee. He assured them that he would not disappoint Anambra State or the nation if granted the opportunity to lead the state.
He observed that winning the election on November 8, 2025, would confirm that Anambra is a stronghold for the Labour Party.
