The advertising executive James Robinson stated that both he and other industry leaders have observed a noticeable tendency among job seekers to utilize generative AI chatbots during their applications. He also cautioned that individuals skilled with this technology might manipulate the hiring process, potentially bypassing assessments of whether they genuinely possess the necessary capabilities for the role.
Megan Cooper, a careers advisor, stated that although AI can serve as a valuable resource for those seeking employment, it should not supersede “human judgment.”

Mr. Robinson, who leads Hello Starling, a Cardiff-based advertising firm, mentioned that job openings at his company have been receiving applications filled with AI-created sentences.
He mentioned that there are several frequently encountered phrases, such as people constantly aiming to ‘utilize their expertise,’.
Often they say something along the lines of ‘I have skills that match your organization’s aims and objectives.’
He mentioned that ChatGPT stated these were the kinds of phrases it would probably produce for a cover letter.
“It’s extremely challenging for me to figure out who is genuine and who are the robots,” he confessed.
Mr. Robinson discussed his encounters with AI-generated job applications on LinkedIn and mentioned that the feedback he received from other industry leaders was quite startling to him.

She mentioned that the university was guiding students on how to determine when utilizing AI was suitable.
“It could be part of the research phase during the application process, perhaps requesting AI for input or assistance in organizing their CV,” she explained.

Timothy Mitchell, a student in his second year of computer security studies at Cardiff Metropolitan University, stated that he thought individuals who do not utilize artificial intelligence are essentially “shortchanging themselves.”
He mentioned that everyone utilizes it, including tutors and employers.
Mr. Mitchell acknowledged that there are “certainly some concerns” regarding broader AI usage, but he personally thinks these worries are “somewhat unwarranted.”
He stated: “The strength of humans lies in their ability to be innovative and generate novel ideas. Conversely, AI fundamentally operates within the boundaries of its pre-programmed knowledge.”
