Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs)
have been revealed, paving the way for one of the most significant evenings dedicated to honoring African cinema and television.
This year, seven Showmax Nigerian Originals received a total of eight nominations spanning six different categories, solidifying their position as some of the finest productions in the industry.

Princess on a Hill
Under the direction of Abiola Sobo and Tolu Ajayi, “Princess on a Hill” follows Zara Osara (played by Onyinye Odokoro), a young lady thrust into corporate intrigue when she suddenly climbs up the career ladder following her victory in a reality competition. The show also stars Bimbo Manuel and Efa Iwara, with both receiving nods for their performances—Bimbo Manuel was shortlisted for Best Lead Actress, and Efa Iwara for Best Supporting Actress. Furthermore, “Princess on a Hill” has been recognized across several categories including Best Scripted Series, Best Editing, and Best Writing – Television Series.
Cheta M
James Omokwe directs the second season of “Cheta M,” which further explores the narrative of Adanna and Nnanna. Their relationship faces challenges from supernatural elements, societal pressures, and individual compromises.
Nominated for both Best Series (Scripted) and Best Writing – TV Series categories, this grandiose drama stars Kingsley Nwachukwu, Oluchi Amajuoyi, and others. Cheta M Season 2 is now available for streaming, with fresh episodes released every week.
My Fairytale Wedding
Can a fail-safe method ensure genuine love? “My Fairytale Wedding” explores this question via the experiences of three friends: Moji, Tima, and Precious. Under the direction of Dimeji Ajibola, the four-episode limited series presents a contemporary romance centered around Moji’s journey. She aims to expedite her path to happiness using charms—in particular, ‘kanyanmata.’
The restricted TV series features prominent Nollywood actors such as Ini Edo, Ramsey Nouah, Daniel Etim-Effiong, Carolyna Hutchings, Kanayo O Kanayo, Shaffy Bello, Ayo Mogaji, Tina Mba, Lilian Esoro, and others.
The Caller
In a gripping and eerie story, a segment exposing infidelities on Koki Mandla’s program sparks a hostage crisis. The stubborn and egotistic radio host has to persuade an enraged soldier not to murder his wife and children during a broadcast.
“The Caller” stars Nice Githinji, Brenda Mwai, and Joe Kinyua, and received nominations for Best Indigenous M-Net Original, Best East African Language Film, and Best Scripted M-Net Original categories.
Italo
Italo’s narrative centers around human trafficking, focusing on three women who represent different phases of this harrowing experience—each having faced trafficking but responding differently afterward. In the Rogers Ofime series, we delve into the complexities of human trafficking via characters like Itohan, the exploiter; Esosa, the survivor who managed to escape; and Omotola, an unsettled adolescent grappling with these issues.
Disguised as a tale of romance between Collins and Esosa, Italo tugs at all the heartstrings as it delves into the consequences of these women’s choices and their connection as victims. The show was nominated for Best Scripted M-Net Original. Starring Angela Eguavoen, Frankincense Eche-Ben, Henry Iyobosa Legemah, and others, Italo captures this intricate narrative.
Uriri
In “Uriri,” a story unfolding in 14th-century Urhobo, an esteemed wrestler named Ogaga confronts his internal struggles and fated journey as he surmounts enormous hurdles. Style Magnate
Style Magnate is a Showmax Nigeria original series that showcases a fashion and design competition featuring 20 promising emerging fashion designers selected via an intensive auditions process. Competing for substantial rewards totaling 100 million Naira—comprising a 10 million Naira cash award, a three-month apprenticeship opportunity, and a fully furnished one-bedroom apartment—the contest was overseen by renowned Nigerian fashion guru Mai Atafo alongside esteemed fashion authority Yolandra Okereke. The participants vied fiercely for the coveted title of Style Magnate. Created by Abisola Omolade, this program garnered recognition with a nod as Best Unscripted Series at nominations ceremonies.
